DIFFERENCE IN SERUM Ca, Mg, INORG. P AND Cl LEVELES BETWEEN THE MATERNAL AND FETAL BLOOD

Abstract
|
|
|
The serum contents of Ca, Mg, inorg P and CI of the maternal and umbilical blood were determined in the normal delivery cases.
The results obtained are as follows.
1) The serum Ca levels of the maternal and fetal blood(20 mother-fetus pairs) are 9.39±1.02 mg/di, 12.21±0.93 mg/dl, respectively.
Thus, the fetal serun Ca content is higher than that of the maternal one.
The difference of these two Calevels is highly significant. (P<0.01)
2) The maternal serum Mg level is 2.09±0.18 mg/dl, while the fetal one is 2.40±0.22 mg/dl (25 delivery cases). The latter is higher than the former, this difference is also highly significant. (P<0.01)
3) The maternal serum inorg. P level is 4.26±1.53 mg/dl, while the fetal one is 5.18±2.16 mg %, which is also higher than the former(60 delivery cases). This difference is highly significant.
4) The maternal serum Cl level is 343.5±34.2 mg/di, and the fetal one is 363.3±-K.07 mg/dl (20 delivery cases). The difference between the maternal and fetal levels is not so significant (P<0.1)
5) A discussion was tried that the higher contents of Ca, Mg and P in fetal serum would be attributable to the great demand for minerals by fetal body for its synthesis.
